I'm new to this website, but I was born in New York City. Raised in the Bronx as a child, moved to Queens and bacame an adult there, but had to return to my native "land", Manhattan. I love it here.

I've never been out west, but I guess if I ever did, I'd too make sure to come back to NY. Although I was born and raised in NY, this is the first time I actually live in the city, and it's like a whole new place for me. There's so much to do here and I'm making sure to take advantage of everything. I just went to an off off off broadway production of Oliver Twist, performed by all teens and at just five dollars a head. AND it was an excellent 2 1/2 hour production I must say. Only in NY.

And yet you speak to someone born and raised in Bronx and they say Yuck to Brooklyn, I say cuase all they've seen is williamsburg and every other bad nieghborhood you could think of in Brooklyn.
My husband is a Bronx person born and raised he never saw brooklyn till I showed him he now thinks diffrently about it. He never knew there was a more to Brooklyn then Williamsburg,LOL.....................sounds like you have been around!!! lol

Well, I was raised in the Bronx as a child and teenager, moved to Brooklyn as an adult, then spent the rest of my time living in Queens. Now I live in Manhattan with my family, so I guess I can say that there is something great and exciting about each borough. I will probably spend the rest of my years in Manhattan, until it's time to retire, but I can never say anything too negative about any borough. The Bronx has the beautiful Zoo and City Island, and Pelham Bay Park where I spent most of my childhood. Brooklyn has the gorgeous and homey and quaint Brooklyn Heights and its surroundings. The architecture in Brooklyn cannot be compared to any other borough, the history in the buildings are amazing. Queens I loved because I truly became an independant adult there and I love the homes and its suburban feel. Really great neighborhoods like Forest Hills and Jackson Heights with its different cultures meshing nicely together. And well, Manhattan is the heart of it all. Its close to work and there is more to do here than anywhere else. The culture, the museums, the parks, the feeling. We can't slam on any of these places since it ALL makes up New York.

I was in no way Slamming the Bronx, but knowing what I know its a personal opinion of mine. I see Bronx as haveing a very diffrent flow then brooklyn due to its cultures.

I speak of this becuase in Both Bronx and Brooklyn Ive experienced the life. Fromt he good and the bad. You have lots of community in the bronx that you dont see much anymore in brooklyn. You have more cultures smushed together in brooklyn then you do in the bronx and so forth.

As far as places and history thats something very diffrent for me. The history will always be but ppl and cultures always change and that is what makes a any bourogh, town ect. That is what I ment.

Im the last person to say anything about Bronx persay, I've experieced the bronx from, working living and having a family here. I my son has experienced in his 2 little years the theaters, zoo, botanical gardens parades and so forth in the bronx. Not to mention the parks small and large, and as for city island lets not go there or ill start my cravings of shrimp gumbo all over again, hmmmmmmmmm so hungry....!

And brooklyn born raised, still living here ive been to every part when i mean been....From one end to the other.........From top to bottom, and even experienced a few school systems and hospitals clinics in my short 32yrs alive.

Im not an expert in either but I think I can talk about Flow and its true every where you go. In and out of brooklyn or NYC or NY or country.
Hmmm I think Im making out pretty good at these chats, Ive been called a gypsey and now a bronx basher,LOL just kidding

And sorry for any harshness I may have portraited in my writings but that was not the intenstions.

sssssh be ve wee ve wee quite.. go brooklyn go brooklyn...I being stupid now as you see i have a bit twisted sence of humor dont mean harm just good convo and fun.

Oh, I never thought you were slamming the Bronx, nor did I think you were being harsh. I was just joining in on the conversation and my bit of experience with each of the boroughs. And believe me, although I have very fond memories of the Bronx, I will not be moving back there again. As you said, the people and the cultures is what draws you to or away from a place, and where I'm at now in the city makes me feel as if i'm part of a community, and that makes me feel like I'm doing right by my son.

Well, now that we've been thru all the boroughs, as a fellow gypsy, may you find and create the roots needed to give your little one those same fond memories we've had.

Actually, I loved Brooklyn while I lived there. I tried getting my husband to move there as well, but he had his sights set on the city. Don't get me wrong, I now love it here as well. I had this preconceived notion as to what the city was like. I thought it wouldn't be a good place to raise a child, but I wasn't aware of the different communities here as well. I'll give him kudos for that.
