Hi, I am a new LunchClubber, and I am a total movie lover, and wondered if there are organized movie outings or if anyone is interested in getting together to see independent, foreign or just any wonderful films and then going out afterwards to discuss?

Hi, I'm also new to the lunch club. I am a major movie (foreign and independent) fan and would love to join or start a movie outing. Count me in!

Hi, I just attended my first lunch club lunch and it was a blast. I don't know how to start a "movie outing"; does Jared have to or should we all pick something, like a Night at the Angelika or something like that?Hi, I'm also new to the lunch club. If there is enough interest in a particular thing, we can make an event out of it - if someone wants to email me with a plan, we can work together...

movie outings sound like a great idea...maybe movie and then a pub/bar afterward to discuss?
Angelicka or Film Forum usually have great stuff.

Yes, let's start with the Angelika and call it Angelika Night or maybe Angelika Brunch Day or something like that. It would be great to see a film and then go somewhere and drink and talk about the movie....

Would like to get a small group together to see THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS
at Film Forum. It's playing now through the 15th, if anyone's interested?

Another idea for a future outing is First Sundays Comedy Film Festivals. As the name suggests, every first Sunday of the month the Chicago City Limits, located at 1105 1st Avenue, showcases some pretty entertaining comedy shorts. Some are done by local filmmakers, others are sent in from around the US.

The program usually starts at 7pm and runs about two hours. Afterwards there is an after party at a nearby bar where the audience members can meet and mingle with the filmmakers. And Stella Artois usually buys the first round...:)

Web site is: http://www.firstsundays.com/

So it's a suggestion for a future outing.

Hey movie lovers..many people in Lunch Club apparently love to go to the movies, so.. why don't we all just pick a date, like Dagfinn says and go to SOMETHING!!! After a LunchClub outing this past weekend, I ended up seeing Dogville with a new lunch club acquaintance and had a great time. But, it would have been even MORE FUN to have more people come with us and go out afterwards to discuss the film, which truly warranted a discussion (I thought it was a great and original piece of work, but not everyone's cup of cinema...)

Please supply dates and ideas to me and we will plan the gathering...

thanks,

Hello Lunch Club,
Here’s my suggestion for our first movie club outing:
I'm Not Scared
Italy/Spain/United Kingdom, 2003
Running Length: 1:48

Cast: Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Dino Abbrescia, Giorgio Careccia, Giuseppe Cristiano, Mattia Di Pierro, Diego Abatantuono
Director: Gabriele Salvatores
In Italian with subtitles

I'm Not Scared, the latest movie from Italian director Gabriele Salvatores (whose Mediterraneo won the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1992), tells of a crime and its impact from the point-of-view of a ten-year old boy. What begins as a fairly commonplace coming-of-age story (a genre that is prevalent amongst imports) gradually develops into a mystery, then a thriller.

Hi - I'm a new LunchClubber too, but what you wrote about movies is exactly what I'm looking for. Your idea about discussing afterwards is great! (Several years ago, my ex-boyfriend made fun of me for suggesting the exact same thing.)

Anyone up for an indie film tonight?

I'm hoping to catch Tsai Ming-Liang's Goodbye Dragon Inn tonight. It's playing at Cinema Village and I'm thinking of going for the 9:30 show. He's made the usual rounds at film festivals -- Cannes, Berlin, Venice -- and won some awards. This film won awards at the Venice Film Festival and critics say it's good too.

If you'd like to join me and maybe go out for a post-show coffee/drink, drop me a line!

Hi, It seems that I am the latest newbie to be interested in joining a movie outing. I have vaguely heard of a movie called Happy Hour but can't say that I know that much about it. I would be game for giving it a try.
