Hey guys - thanks for coming to Speed Friending. Hope you're all busy private messaging the people you met!

Just to let everyone know, we had initially wanted to experiment with "Random Rounds" but after asking a lot of people before and during the break, it seemed that people liked the structured rounds and wanted to continue with them. I'm glad we did. While Random Rounds, in which you have to approach someone and strike up a convo, sound nice in theory, I'm not sure how well it would actually play out. Anyway, I think last night went really well, yes? We stuck to the 5 minute timing too! If you have any feedback, please do share. I think in the future, we might try to add some topics to the stations to facilitate conversation, and help you get past the "what do you do and where do you live" stuff. I know it was loud in there - in the future we'll try to get the music turned off - but keep in mind it's hard to get a space like this to accomodate so many people. :-) Sorry about the drink prices too. You never know when the bar will keep their promise or not. ;-) But overall, success!

Thanks again!

Jared,

I LOVED the structured rounds and was really glad we stuck to it. Met a lot of really cool people. Thank you! My only complaint is that it was really frustrating with the noise level of the other party and the music. Maybe during the afternoon on a weekend it would be less crowded? Or another location where we can have the whole room of a bar like upstairs or back section?

What a great event. If in fact 69 people attended and there were 20 introductions over approx 1 hour and 40 minutes then there were 1380 new possible friendships. Of course that couldn't be because there weren't 34 stations. I think there were 25 and 500 = 25 @ 20 were more like it. Anyway, it was as culturally diverse as NY is and the conversations at my station, station number 5 ( an odd number) ranged in topic from Lincoln Terrace Park in Brooklyn NY where I grew up to the olympic swimmer Mike Phelphs. Truly wonderful! What a great place to ratchet up your social skills. And yes the music was obnoxious. That was my only complaint. Otherwise magnificent.

OK - we'll make a definite effort to have no background music from now on!

Next Speed Friending event: Tuesday, September 19th. Be there:

My only suggestion would be to have less rounds and more time to chat afterwards. It was nice to use the 5 minutes to start a conversation, but by round 20 everyone was a bit exhausted. If the rounds ended earlier more people would stick around and chat in a more casual atmosphere.

I had a good time and met some very interesting people.
