Hello,
I've already posted this note in another forum but I think it might be more suitable for me to post it here. I have been living in NYC for about 3 years now but have decided it is time for me to move on. I lived in Europe during my high school years and my summers in college but have not had the opportunity to live and work abroad. So, since I have nothing holding me back, I am looking to make a change and move to London. Does anyone have any advice on where to look for apartments and jobs other than craiglist? Advice from someone who has moved from the states to London or Europe would be very helpful. Although I will take any input anyone has to give me.
Thanks so much,
Jill

I've not been in this position myself - born and bred Londoner and all that - but I've been speaking to a few friends who rent and they've all mentioned www.gumtree.com (http://www.gumtree.com/). As the name suggests, it's particularly popular with Australians and Kiwis, but has a very busy house and flat share section. Demand is such that a lot go very quickly but I know several people in lovely houses and aparments who found them through the site.
I'm also told it's a good starting point for jobs.
What sort of work are you looking for? Maybe I and other London members can recommend some agencies etc., in advance of your arrival...
Hope this helps, and trust we'll see you at a London Lunch Club event soon!
Best wishes

A great website to post your CV on is www.jobsite.co.uk (http://www.jobsite.co.uk/) . I still have recruitment consultants contacting me with interesting vacancies and I don’t have to do any of the leg work of finding these jobs! Another house/ flat website is www.flatemate.co.uk (http://www.flatemate.co.uk/)
Good Luck!

Hi Jill
Of course, the always-useful Craigslist (www.craigslist.org) has a London subsite - another good place to look for accommodation and work.
In the meantime, if you need a couch to crash on for a few days when you first arrive here, then mine is at your disposal.
At the very least, we expect to see you at a few Lunch Club gatherings when you get here!

Loot - a free listings newspaper is also another good place to look for flatshares (or anything really). I found a whole bunch of nice people when I was renting out a room at my place. http://www.loot.com (http://www.loot.com/)

Hi everyone!
Thank you so much for all of your responses and I apologize that I have not had the chance to post a note until now. I've been busy trying to find work over on your side of the pond and trying to organize all the steps it will take to relocate. I really appreciate all the information that you have given me so far. When I make it over there and I am making a soft estimate that it will be before Christmastime, I will definitely plan on attending the lunchclub gatherings! :)
I will make sure to keep you updated on my progress but in the meantime, please keep those suggestions coming! :)
Jill
