The call of the dying

Freaky thing happened to me the last night.

For almost a year now I’ve been living with an elderly man, sleeping in his room. The last few days I wasn’t with him. Last night I had a dream that I was with other people in a room with him on the deathbed. Today I got a phone call that he died last night.

I don’t think this means anything. I believe it’s a coincidence. But I know that many of you believe in the super-rational and like hearing such stories so I thought I’d share it with you.

The reason I believe so is because I’ve dreamed many times of people I know dying and they never did. He was an old man. It was normal for me to think and dream about him dying, and normal for him to die. It just happened to happen in the same night.

When I dream of a person dying and nothing happens. I don’t go telling everyone wow what a story I had, no one repeats it, and it’s forgotten. Only when it does happen is it interesting to tell, others repeat it, and the story spreads. So you hear much more success stories, even though failure stories outnumber them enough to make it a coincidence.
